Aerolux light bulbs are a truly fascinating electrical oddity that first appeared in the 1930’s. The bulbs have decorative filaments inside the glass shell that illuminate with an eerie glow, thanks to the neon gas trapped inside.
Aerolux light bulbs were manufactured by the Aerolux Company of New York until the 1970s. There are literally hundreds of different designs, from floral-themed decorative pieces, female nudes, dogs, crosses and crucifixes, to specific advertising pieces featuring various companies’ logos and mascots.
Some Aerolux light bulbs were sold loose, while others came with decorative lamp bases like the one shown above. Scroll down to see a variety of vintage Aerolux light bulbs.
