This vintage oil painting portrait of a dignified madame with an unusually long neck is signed by the artist, Bez. Perhaps it is an early work by diamond jewelry designer Bez Ambar (who was originally a painter). It is a well-executed piece that has a strange, almost surreal quality to it, like the type of portrait you might find in an old haunted house movie. When we had it hanging in the living room, I couldn't help but think of the TV show Dark Shadows everytime I walked past it. It's like having your own Collins ancestor! The oil on canvas measures 17 inches x 34 inches and is professionally framed in shiny pewter painted wood. The painting appears to have some light yellow streaks and spots, but it could be the paint or varnish the artist used. We have not attempted to clean it in any way, there are detailed photos below. There are absolutely no rips, holes or dents.
The Lee Reynolds painting became a staple in 1970s contemporary modernist home décor.
In the far-out sixties and seventies, a Lee Reynolds painting brought genuine contemporary abstract art into the homes of everyday Americans.
From Vanguard Studios of Beverly Hills, California, each painting was executed by one of the talented artists working under the instruction of acclaimed mid-century painter Lee Reynolds Burr. This Lee Reynolds painting is a huge 41 inches x 41 inches, framed in wood, and has a loud and striking, yet happy and pleasing expressionist interpretation of the classic theme of still life with flowers. It’s an exciting retro painting full of movement. This piece has its original Vanguard Studio tag and a sales tag with what appears to be the initials of the artist who actually painted this piece (CJ), the initials also appear in black ink on the top back edge of the canvas frame. The painting is in excellent condition with no dirt, stains, rips holes or dents. The frame does have a few minor scuffs and dings, but no major damage. There are quite a few examples of the classic mid-century Lee Reynolds painting on eBay.[ebay campaignid="5336843051" keywords="LEE REYNOLDS MID-CENTURY OIL PAINTING MOD FLOWERS 41x41" rows="1" columns="1" pagination="no" vertical="no"]
