Hassock fans can double as ottomans, too, and some are even strong enough to be used as a cooling stool seat! The stylish Sears brand vintage hassock fan shown above has an all plastic design and a very Eames-Era Space Age modern flair. It has an equally retro '70s 2-tone color scheme of off-white / cream and dark chocolate brown...very "Contempo" color combination that will fit in perfectly with any late '70s - early '80s "modern" design. The Sears Roebuck & Co. Model 453-8044-00 hassock fan has three speed settings with a quiet motor that delivers a pleasant flow of ambient air. It stands approximately 14 inches tall and 16 inches in diameter with a very solid and sturdy construction and, like most hassock fan units, can be used as an ottoman for your hot and tired legs. It has a undeniably fabulous shape and design, looking a bit like a Sci-Fi B Movie space craft. This hassock fan was found absolutely covered in years of thick, gooey dust. It was completely dismantled and meticulously cleaned inside and out. It took quite some time to do this, but the results were amazing. Beyond a few scratches and scuffs on the top of the unit, as well as a few minor scuffs and scratches on the body, it looked brand new. It was sold and shipped ready to be used right out of the box. Just about every major fan manufacturer in America made a Hassock fan...Westinghouse, Lasco, General Electric, Emerson, Kisco, Galaxy, Eskimo, Toastmaster, Welch Air Flight fans, etc. A vintage hassock fan is a fun and visually appealing way to enjoy a breeze in the summer months. Plenty of "cool" hassock fans are available on eBay, including the Sears hassock fan above (which was also made under the Kenmore and Toastmaster brand names). Lakewood Engineering & Manufacturing is still around today, but there are legions of followers who swear by their vintage Lakewood fan. Lakewood electric fans were assembled in the USA, and Lakewood fans of the 1980s are vastly superior in build and style compared to the "modern" dumped import fans at Whatever-Mart. We are big electric fan lovers, and Lakewood fans seem to stand the test of time better than most. This amazing Space Odyssey modernist rotary telephone has beautiful geometric lines and an eye-catching bright orange shell. This Northern Telecom Contempra phone was first made available in 1968 (the touchtone version came out a few years later) and is designed for both tabletop and wall-mount use. The phone has a floating / moving fingerstop, a good heavy weight, loud analog bell ringer with volume control (no ringer off, though), and quintessential Space Age Modern style. Phone is used and shows minor scuffs and wear associated with said use. However, it is very clean and has no cracks, chips, or other structural damage. There are no glaring flaws that detract at all from the sleek appearance. Phone measures 9.25 inches x 5.25 inches and sits 3.25 inches tall.
This 1930s General Electric oscillating vintage electric fan still looks and works great! The 10 inch pancake fan blades have a few marks and scuffs, but no dents or structural damage. The power cord was replaced in the early 1980s, everything else is completely original. Overall, it does show moderate wear and tear, but nothing obvious that detracts from the swell decorative look. The fan has been dismantled, meticulously cleaned, lubricated and is ready to enjoy or ready for painting/restoration. See photos below for detailed images of the actual product.
Phil Rich Windmaker Fan
This original Phil Rich Windmaker vintage electric fan has a solid chrome steel cage and body with polished aluminum blades and motor housing. Made in Houston Texas, the electric fan sits on the floor or any sturdy tabletop surface and has full vertical adjustment. Though the Windmaker was traditionally used in commercial environments, the machine age design adds great authentic American style to any home decor and since the fan still works great, it is meant to be used! The 12 inch aluminum fan blades of the Windmaker deliver a powerful steady airflow and motor has two speeds, fast and jet turbine engine! It does show some minor wear and tear: no tiny rust spots on the cage of this Windmaker, some moderate rust spots on the steel hood that covers the motor housing of this Phil Rich fan (which can be buffed out with steel wool), some staining on the aluminum surface of the blades and motor housing, rubbed paint on the logo emblem, and finally a piece of loose cage wire and a bent wire. On this particular piece of the Phil Rich Windmaker, the cage wire has popped loose from two welded spots on the frame. Despite the damage, everything is very clean (no dust, grime or "goo") and the fan is ready to be used out of the box. We dismantle and meticulously clean every fan we sell, which our customers really appreciate. Finally, there is a small hole in the motor of this Windmaker that is pictured where a couple of drops of household lubricating oil are supposed to be added every 6 months. So, do that. This Phil Rich fan has been in storage for a very long time, and though the motor works and sounds great, it should probably be oiled before it goes under heavy use. The entire unit stands 18.5 inches tall. We finally sold this fan to a very happy customer in Tennessee. They are fairly hard to find nowadays, but check below to see if there are any Phil Rich Windmaker Fans for sale now.
